‘Type of Way’ & ‘Flex’ Rapper Dies at 34, 911 Call Released – Hollywood Life
Atlanta-based rapper Rich Homie Quan, known for hits like 2013’s “Type of Way” and 2015’s “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” has died at the age of 34, according to a statement from the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office.
TMZ also reported on Thursday morning that the platinum-selling rapper, whose real name is Dequantes Devontay Lamar, passed away on September 5 at his Atlanta home. Details regarding the cause of death have not been provided.
On Thursday evening, the 911 call reportedly made by the father of four’s girlfriend was released. During the call, Amber Williams stated that she found Lamar’s lifeless body on a couch after dropping off their son at school.
Williams, who sounded noticeably shaken, mentioned that Lamar had fallen asleep on the couch the night before and hadn’t moved by the time she checked on him that morning. She explained that she had placed a blanket over him, assuming he was still asleep, before leaving to take her son to school.
However, upon returning home, she checked on him again and “didn’t feel a heartbeat” and noticed he wasn’t breathing. “When I turned him over, he kind of foamed at the mouth,” said Williams—who also goes by “Rella”—through tears.
Multiple reports suggest Lamar may have died from a drug overdose, but that information has not been confirmed. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, according to Jimmy Sadler, the senior medical examiner investigator with the Fulton County Office.
Williams has yet to release a statement about Lamar’s passing on her social media, but here’s everything to know about the rapper’s longtime girlfriend and the mother of two of his children.
Who Is Amber “Rella” Williams?
Born Amber Nicole Williams, the business owner and makeup artist became known as the girlfriend of rapper Rich Homie Quan.
The 33-year-old was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and grew up with her younger brother. She also has a history of working in the music industry.
Children
While the couple had not tied the knot, Lamar and Williams were raising their two children — 10-year-old Royal Lamar and 3-year-old Layor Leonis Lamar — together. (The rapper is also a father to his oldest son, Devin, and another son, Khosen, from previous relationships.)
The pair’s older son, Royal, was not legally recognized as Lamar’s until 2020.
According to court documents obtained by The Blast, a Georgia judge signed a final consent order in the case brought by the “Lifestyle” rapper.
Just five years earlier, Lamar and Williams decided to move in together to raise their children as co-parents while working on their relationship. That same year, the couple announced they were expecting another child, who was born later that year.
At a gender reveal party, they shared that they were expecting a baby boy, posting pictures from the event on Instagram.
“Unity,” Williams wrote on her Instagram, along with a photo of herself surrounded by family at the gender reveal celebration.
“Beautiful family,” one fan commented. “Congratulations,” wrote several others.
