Aamir Khan had once criticised Govinda’s film calling it ‘vulgar’. The film was the highest-grossing movie of 1993.

Govinda – King of Comedy

Govinda ruled the screens in 80s and 90s. He remained the the undisputed king when it came to comedy. A lot of his movies like Raja Babu, Coolie No 1, Dulhe Raja, Akhiyon Se Goli Maare, Aunty No 1 and many more served as laugh riot and turned blockbuster films.

In 1993, one of his comedy movies turned out to be blockbuster hit. The movie was directed by David Dhawan and it was the highest-grossing movie of that year. However, Aamir Khan did not like the film.

The movie we are talking about is Aankhen. Govinda’s film starred celebrities like Chunky Pandey, Raageshwari, Ritu Shivpuri, Shilpa Shirodkar, Kader Khan, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Shakti Kapoor and Raj Babbar.

In one of the interviews, Aamir had spoken about Aankhen and clearly mentioned that he did not like Govinda’s film. He had stated that some of the scenes were ‘vulgar’ in the movie.

Aamir Khan’s statement read, ‘David is a close friend of mine. But personally, I didn’t like the film, and David might know. I don’t know how it became such a huge hit. For me, the film was too crude, and some of the scenes were too vulgar. Thus, I didn’t like it, but the audience did.’

He also decoded why Aankhen was a hit. As per a report in TOI, Aamir shared that people loved ‘utt-pattang’ as the environment of riots had clouded the country. He shared that it was his observation and he could be wrong.
