Actress Sonakshi Sinha has finally shared her perspective on rumors suggesting that she was asked to convert to Islam after she married Zaheer Iqbal. For the unversed, Sonakshi and Zaheer got married in June 2024. Their wedding – an intimate affair – saw the presence of close friends and family. They had opted for a registered marriage under the Special Marriages Act. Later, the couple had hosted a party to celebrate their wedding. Since Sonakshi and Zaheer had an interfaith marriage, they were subjected to both public scrutiny and speculation. In a recent interview with Hauterrfully, Sonakshi addressed the most asked question – did she convert to Islam?
In the recent interview, Sonakshi mentioned that they never considered religion as the focus in their relationship and marriage. They were two people in love who wanted to get married. As Sonakshi said, Zaheer never tried to thrust his religion on her and neither did she. She added that they never sit and talk about it either. Instead, they appreciate each other’s cultures. She added, “They follow certain traditions at their house, I follow mine at my house. Mere Diwali puja mein voh aake baithta hai, main unke niyaz pe baithti hu, that’s all that matters. I respect them and their culture, they respect me and my culture.”
Hence, marrying under Special Marriages best was the best way to get married as a “Hindu woman doesn’t need to change religion and he can remain a Muslim man and two people in love can share a beautiful bond of marriage,” she explained.
Post wedding with Zaheer Iqbal, the actress was trolled mercilessly on social media. However, she subtly gave a befitting reply to all by commenting on a post that was all about ‘Love being a universal language’. On this post, she commented, “Truest words!! This is adorable. Thank you.” It made headlines in entertainment news.
