Shahid Kapoor’s Deva is finally in theatres. Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, the film marks the Hindi film directorial debut of the Malayalam filmmaker. The film also stars Pooja Hegde as the female lead and Pravesh Rana, Pavail Gulati, Kubbra Sait in key roles. Deva presents Shahid as a fierce cop. The action entertainer has had a good buzz around it ever since the cast of the film was confirmed. In fact, Shahid, who is one of the finest actors in India right now, has called Deva his most complex and challenging character to date. Expectations have been high from Deva. But does it meet the hype? BL is watching the film right now and this is the Deva movie review of the first half of the film.
“Mumbai kisi ke baap ka nahi hai, Mumbai Police ka hai” , says Shahid Kapoor‘s character Deva moments before the interval and this pretty much sums up the first half of the film. Deva starts all guns blazing and wastes no time in establishing Dev as the dare devil cop. His swag instantly wins you over. The first few minutes into the film you are introduced to the key characters who are the centre of Deva’s universe.
The film starts on a rather tragic note, leaving you shocked and intrigued to know all that led to this point. There are ample flashback scenes fused with the present but that’s seamlessly done, making this
high-octane cop drama pacy. While there is enough and more action for the fans of the genre, Deva has a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
The casting is on point and all actors perform their characters effortlessly. The interval comes at a point where Dev is trying to understand his new reality as the pressure of solving an important case weighs over him. Along with Dev, the viewers are left eagerly waiting for the second half, to uncover lies, and discover the all new Dev.
