Ranbir Kapoor shoulders Ayan Mukerji’s father’s bier, Hrithik Roshan pays last respects

Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji’s father Deb Mukherjee breathed his last on March 14. He was 83 and passed away due to age-related ailments. As soon as the news of his demise was confirmed, Ayan’s close friends Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor rushed to his Mumbai residence to pay their last respects. Ranbir Kapoor and Alia had left Mumbai on March 13 for a quiet getaway in Alibaug to ring in the actress’ birthday. But their trip had to be cut short when they were told about the demise of Ayan Mukerji’s father. Ranbir Kapoor, who is extremely close to Ayan Mukerji, has featured in his films including Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, Wake Up Sid and Brahmastra, which also featured Alia Bhatt. Ayan was also one of few people from the industry who attended the couple’s wedding in April 2022.

Besides Ranbir Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Kajol, Karan Johar were also spotted at Ayan Mukerji’s residence to pay respects to his dad Deb Mukherjee.

Ahead of Alia Bhatt’s birthday celebrations scheduled for March 15, Ranbir Kapoor had shared exciting news about Brahmastra: Part Two – Dev during a meet and greet session with the paps. He confirmed that the movie will happen. “Brahmastra 2 is something that Ayan has been nurturing as a dream for a very long time. He is currently working on War 2. Once this releases, he will start the pre-production of Brahmastra 2. It is definitely happening. We haven’t really announced much of it but then some really interesting announcements (will be made soon) regarding Brahmastra 2,” he had said.

Ranbir had also spoken about about his next film, Love and War, which is being directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The movie also stars Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal and will be released in March 2026. “Working with Bhansali is a dream for any actor. He understands emotions, music, and Indian culture very well. His movies take time, but the results are amazing,” Ranbir shared.
