Pushpa 2 faces legal challenge, again! PIL filed in Telangana High Court over profits

Pushpa 2 The Rule – which featured Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna in key roles – emerged as one of the highest grosser in Indian cinema. The film which had to deal with legal issues – following a stampeded case wherein a mother lost her life and her child battles for recovery – is caught in another controversy.
G L Narasimha Rao, president of the Cine Prekshaka Viniyoga Darula Sangham has filed Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the High Court of Telangana. According to his petition, Rao stated that the profits from Pushpa-2: The Rule have to be kept aside for the welfare and subsidies of small-budget films.
Narasimha Rao further argued that the movie earned over Rs 1800 cr the world over, and the film largely profited due to increase in ticket prices and benefit shows. The petitioner had also expressed concerns about the basis on which ticket prices and special screenings were approved, and referenced a Supreme Court ruling on the matter. He requested the court to instruct the government to allocate the film’s profits towards activities that benefit cine viewers, such as building public theaters and taking measures to support small films.
On hearing the case, the judge questioned the relevance of the petition and cited that the benefit shows and ticket price hikes was already concluded. However, the petitioner clarified that the PIL particularly concerns the profits derived from the film.
After hearing the arguments, the court directed the petitioner to provide a copy of the relevant Supreme Court ruling that backs his claims. The case has been adjourned for two weeks.
