Karan Johar’s cryptic post after selling half of Dharma Productions’ stake grabs attention
Filmmaker Karan Johar recently made it to the headlines as he sold a stake in his Dharma Productions to Adar Poonawalla. As per the reports, Karan Johar sold half of his stake of Dharma Productions to Adar Poonawalla’s Serene Productions. Reportedly, the deal was sealed at mighty Rs 1000 crore. There have been a lot of reports suggesting what made Karan Johar sell his stake in the company. Dharma Productions is one of the biggest names in the industry having produced films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Veer Zaara and many more. So the news of Karan Johar’ selling stake in company did make for big headlines. Now it is his cryptic note that is making headlines.
Taking to his Instagram stories, Karan Johar made a post that read, “Competition happens at the bottom. The people at the top are collaborating.” Given the several reports about Dharma Productions and the profits it has earned over the last couple of years, this cryptic post of Karan Johar has left many wondering and curious.
If reports are to be believed, Dharma Productions’ revenue dipped by 50 percent over the past one year. As per the annual report submitted to Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Dharma Productions’ annual revenue before the pandemic was around Rs 700 crore. Out of this the profit was around Rs 27 crore. However, during the pandemic, the numbers witnessed a major drop. Like other businesses, Dharma Productions too suffered. However, post pandemic, with films like Sooryavanshi, JugJugg Jeeyo and more, the company bounced back and even crossed the revenue mark of Rs 1000 crore. But the year 2023-2024 was a tough one. As per the figures, the revenue dropped by almost 50 percent. The profit dropped by almost 95 percent. As per a report in Tofler, Dharma Productions’ profit in 2023-2024 was just Rs 59 lakh. These figures have left fans wondering if this was the actual reason as to why Karan Johar had to sell a major chunk of his share in the company.
In recent times, Dharma Productions production Jigra along with Alia Bhatt’s production venture. The film got embroiled in a controversy after Divya Khossla Kumar claimed that the film was copied from her movie titled Saavi. There were also reports of fake box office numbers.
