Kamal Haasan‘s movie Thug Life directed by Mani Ratnam released on June 5. The movie was mired in controversies before its big release. Kamal Haasan drew a lot of flak for his statement ‘Kannada is born of Tamil.’ A lot of people demonstrated anger and demanded for the ban of the film in the state of Karnataka. The actor and makers moved to High Court, however, the hearing got pushed to June 10. The film has released everywhere except Karnataka. Now, Thug Life is in the news because of its box office collection.
Kamal Haasan‘s movie Thug Life took a good start at the box office. The movie made approximately Rs 15.5 crore. On its second day though, the movie witnessed a major dip in numbers. As reported by Sacnilk.com, Thug Life collected around Rs 7.13 crore at the box office. The film released on a Thursday and it was expected that it will pick up over the next days. However, that does not seem to be the case. As per the report, Kamal Haasan’s film on third day, i.e., first Saturday has made around Rs 1.58 crore so far. It remains to be seen if Thug Life picks up pace over the evening shows. Given the trend, it may witness a dip in numbers. But the final numbers for first Saturday are yet to come in.
Currently, the major contribution to Thug Life’s box office is from the state of Tamil Nadu. On Saturday, reportedly the movie is witnessing 26.64% Tamil occupancy in the theatres. Chennai, Trichy, Dindigul and other cities are witnessing the highest occupancy.
Thug Life is facing competition from Housefull 5 in Hindi. The multi-starrer released on June 6. It stars Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Nana Patekar, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri and others. On day 1, the movie collected around Rs 24 crore. On first Saturday, the film has already collected approximately Rs 7.74 crore.
