Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound has received a nine-minute long standing ovation which left Karan Johar and others emotional at the Cannes Film Festival. We tell you what exactly happened.
In a proud moment for both Indian cinema and Neeraj Ghaywan, Homebound received a standing ovation at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival 2025. Homebound – which has been directed by Neeraj Ghaywan – was premiered in the Un Certain Regard category on May 21 at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. The movie – which features Ishan Khatter, Janhvi Kapoor, and Vishal Jethwa in crucial roles – was loved by people so much that post its screening, it received a nine-minute-long standing ovation. Both director Neeraj Ghaywan and producer Karan Johar were present at the screening, where they got emotional after witnessing a thunderous response to their feature film.
Dharma Studios took to Instagram and posted an insider video from the movie premiere itself. He shared the moment with the caption that read, “9 minutes of pure love & applause! Team Homebound receiving all the appreciation at @festivaldecannes!”.
In the video, the film’s lead Ishan Khatter and producer Karan Johar were seen reacting to the appreciation with folded hands. They expressed their gratitude to the crowd for the extraordinary reaction. Later in the video, producer Karan Johar is also seen sharing an emotional moment with director Neeraj Ghaywan.
Along with Karan Johar, the names of the producers of Homebound include Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, whereas Marijke deSouza and Melita Toscan du Plantier are the co-producers on the project.
Martin Scorsese’s name has also been included in this list as he has been the executive producer of Homebound.
The movie Homebound revolves around the bond of two friends from a desolate village in northern India who later move into the city in search of dignity and respect and ultimately decide to become police officers, but their bond starts to take on the toll and stress that their ambitious minds suddenly bring into their lives.
