GOAT sequel confirmed? Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘GOAT vs OG’ promises epic showdown
GOAT (Greatest of All Time), starring Thalapathy Vijay, released in theatres on September 5th, generating immense excitement and anticipation. Directed by Venkat Prabhu, the film showcases Vijay in dual roles: as Gandhi, a Special Anti-Terrorist Squad (SATS) member, and Jeevan, his son. The movie explores Gandhi’s family life and his surprising decision to leave SATS for a safer career, blending emotional depth with high-octane action.
The film made a remarkable debut at the box office, with early estimates suggesting an opening day collection of ₹55 crore in India. This impressive figure marks GOAT as one of the few Tamil films to surpass ₹50 crore on its opening day and is Vijay’s third film to achieve this milestone. In Tamil Nadu alone, the film has already earned over ₹30 crore.
As the film ends, audiences are treated to an intriguing hint about the future of the franchise. The ending credits reveal “GOAT vs OG,” suggesting a possible sequel. Although the title and details of the sequel are not officially confirmed, as reported by several entertainment news websites, director Venkat Prabhu has hinted that the follow-up may feature a new, even larger villain, expanding on the hero concept established in GOAT.
Towards the end of the film, Vijay’s is seen passing on the baton to actor Sivakarthikeyan, signalling a major shift in the storyline. Fans are keen to see how Sivakarthikeyan’s character will develop in the sequel. The film also stars Prabhu Deva, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Prasanth, and Premgi Amaren.
Meanwhile, GOAT is expected to be available for streaming on Netflix approximately four weeks after its theatrical release. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the film’s strong box office performance and the exciting hint about a sequel have kept audiences eagerly awaiting more news. Currently, there is no Hindi version of the film, as producers reportedly disagreed with the decision to release it in North Indian chains.
