Comedian-actor Vir Das slams mainstream media; says, ‘Debate what good journalism is…’

Ranveer Allahbadia has landed in major trouble for his remarks on Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent. The YouTuber/podcaster asked a contestant on a show, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?” As soon as the episode was released, a lot of people slammed Ranveer for his inappropriate question on ‘sex with parents.’
An FIR was also filed against Ranveer Allahbadia. Some celebrities have slammed him for his remarks, while some have come out in his support. Comedian-actor Vir Das also now shared his opinion on the entire matter. In his post, Das has slammed the mainstream media for the way they’re handling the issue. On his Instagram story, Vir wrote, “The audience is always welcome to debate what good comedy is. A good artist will take their feedback head down, mouth shut, and maybe evolve. Either way, the consequences of your comedy on your career and audience are pretty instant. That’s a natural process.”
Further, slamming media and the way it is covering the controversy, Vir Das wrote, “But we are also watching a bunch of irrelevant mainstream media anchors bordering extinction coming together to take down new media that gets millions more views, longer interviews, and far more impact than their bloated studios and fat salary at 1 percent of the cost. Whether you like the new media or not is irrelevant. That’s also what’s happening here. And while they debate what good comedy is, please debate what good journalism is and the news that they should be doing, the questions they should be asking, and who they should be asking them to.”
Meanwhile, along with Ranveer Allahbadia, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has also summoned Samay Raina, Apoorva Makhija, Ashish Chanchlani, and Jaspreet Singh. Producers Tushar Poojari and Saurabh Bothra have also been summoned in the case.
