Amid Malayalam film industry’s #Metoo, Khushbu Sundar makes shocking revelations on being abused by her father, ‘The person who was supposed to provide me…’

In the midst of a #MeToo movement shaking the Malayalam film industry, Khushbu Sundar, an actor-turned-politician, has expressed strong support for the Kerala government’s Justice K Hema Committee. On her official X account, Sundar discussed the committee’s crucial role in addressing the abuse that women in the Mollywood film industry experience. Sundar also talked about its significant impact, which has led to a new wave of #MeToo movement in the film industry, and urged women to stay strong and not settle for less.

The Justice Hema Committee, established following the 2017 actress assault case, recently released a detailed 235-page report revealing widespread harassment and exploitation faced by women in Malayalam cinema. The report, which was made public on August 21, underscores the urgent need for reform and greater protection for women in the industry. On X, Khushbu Sundar also talked about being abused by her father and being questioned for taking time to speak about it. The entire exposé has shook the entertainment news world.

Khushbu Sundar’s post on X reads, “Abuse, asking for sexual favours, and expecting women to compromise to gain a foothold or accelerate their careers exist in every field. Why is a woman alone expected to go through the grind? Although men too face it, it’s marginally women who bear the brunt.” The politician mentioned how a victim fears being questioned and blamed for what they experienced. Khushu wants people to support them, provide an ear to listen to, and give a strong emotional backing. She stated that the reason she didn’t speak of experiencing abuse by her father earlier was because not everyone is privileged to speak out.

Khushbu Sundar’s post further reads, “Some ask me what took me so long to speak about my father’s abuse. I agree I should have spoken earlier. But what happened to me was not a compromise to build my career. I was abused at the hands of the person who was supposed to provide me the strongest arms to hold me if I fell.” Khushbu Sundar concludes the post by mentioning that this should be a wake-up call to all and wants the exploitation of women and actresses to stop right now. The former actress also encouraged more women to speak out and reminded people that a no is always a no.

Following the HEMA Committee report and the names that came out, Malayalam superstar Mohanlal resigned as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Arts (AMMA). His resignation came a few days after several members were accused of alleged sexual misconduct.
