Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana, hit theatres on August 15. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the horror comedy has received outstanding reviews from both audiences and critics. In just a week, the film is on the verge of joining the 300-crore club. People have been praising Stree 2 for being even funnier than the first part, filled with jokes that incorporate pop culture and meme references. The CBFC altered one joke, originally about crying and referencing singer Neha Kakkar—who became a meme sensation for often breaking down on a reality show—to use the name Sneha Kakkar instead. An entertainment news portal asked Amar Kaushik about the changes made to this prominent joke. The censor board asked Amar Kaushik if he found the request for a change in the dialogue disappointing. The director told Bollywood Hungama that it wasn’t really a downer, as the CBFC members pointed out that such jokes might offend people. Amar felt the CBFC made a valid point, so they decided not to request that the dialogue be kept in the movie. Kaushik stated that the audience still understood the joke. Further, the Bhediya director explained that when writing comedy, such jokes often come up, similar to how friends might pass comments while sitting together, which adds to the fun. Amar and writer Niran Bhatt aimed to infuse humour into the film in a way that resonated with the audience. The director expressed his dislike for the term ‘gag,’ saying that it feels unpleasant to him and finds it akin to puking.

In the same interview, the Stree 2 director also praised the CBFC members, describing them as intelligent and sensible. Amar mentioned that they understood his point of view and acknowledged that some dialogues could cause issues. But the board also realised that removing certain lines could affect Stree 2’s story. So they didn’t censor them, and that surprised him. However, Amar revealed that the team was prepared for many dialogues to be cut.
