Bollywood superstars Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai created magic when the two worked together in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Fans were excited to see them together and requested them to star in films. But, the two never worked together in many films. In 2018, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s superhit film Padmaavat starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles was released.
The film created history at the box office and also broke several records. But, did you know Sanjay’s first choices for Shahid and Deepika’s roles were Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan? Yes, you read that right! Aishwarya’s one condition left everyone shocked and Salman refused to play the role in Padmaavat.
According to an IMDb report, Sanjay Leela Bhansali initially wanted Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai for the film. But, the two stars were not on talking terms. Salman agreed to join the film, but Aishwarya’s condition created chaos. She insisted that she would only work in the movie if Salman played the negative role of Alauddin Khilji. She did not want to share any screen time with him. Salman rejected Aishwarya’s condition which made Sanjay change the lead.
Bhansali eventually decided to cast Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. He made Ranveer Singh play the role of the villain, Alauddin Khilji. In Padmaavat, Shahid played Maharawal Ratan Singh, while Deepika Padukone portrayed Queen Padmavati. Ranveer’s performance was lauded by all. The film managed to collect Rs 387.37 crore in India and Rs 571.98 crore globally. Padmaavat became the second highest-grossing film of 2018.
