Thug Life actor Simbu thanks Mani Ratnam for offering him work when others didn’t: ‘Many producers were…’
During the audio launch event of Thug Life, Simbu showed no inhibitions in expressing his gratitude towards ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam. Read on to know what he said.
Thug Life has been making headlines ever since its trailer was out. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film features Kamal Haasan, Trisha Krishnan and Simbu in key roles. During a recent promotional event, which also marked the audio launch of the film, Simbu got on stage to thank Mani Ratnam for rendering full support to him even when he had to face several professional challenges and controversies.
During the event, Simbu recalled how Mani Ratnam offered him work, even when he was facing difficulties and challenges in his professional life. According to India Today, Simbu said, “He took a film titled ‘Anjali’, and it starred children. A Telugu child artist played the lead. I started crying after watching the film. I felt sad that I wasn’t a part of the film despite being a child artist here. At that time, I thought he wouldn’t call me ever. When I grew up, I only did mass masala films. There was a time when there were talks about [producers] giving me a red card. Many producers were sceptical of approaching me.”
“At that time, I received a call from Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies. I didn’t believe it at first. When I met him, I asked him if it was truly he who called me for a film. At a time when everyone was scared to work with me, he took that chance. I will never forget that,” he added.
Back in 2023, Simbu and a few other actors were sent red cards from the Tamil Film Producers’ Council. This led to a temporary ban to ensure they didn’t accept work from any producer until a notice said so.
