The film – which has been directed by TJ Gnanavel and produced by Lyca Productions – had featured Rajinikanth in the role of a cop and Amitabh Bachchan had won hearts with his impeccable performance as a lawyer. While the viewers are still in love with their onscreen chemistry, Malayalam actor Alencier Ley Lopez, who had essayed the role of a judge in the scene, didn’t find their performance flattering. Alencier recalled their onscreen performances, and said, “During my pre-degree days, I saw Rajini sir stopping the whirring blades of a helicopter with his bare teeth. So, I wanted to see how he acts in front of the camera. During the Vettaiyan shoot, I saw him perform his stylised form of acting, using his body language before walking out of the courtroom. Then, Amitabh Bachchan roared like a lion, and I had to act shocked after witnessing all this.”

During the interaction, he also explained his experience of working in Vettaiyan even though it was a single day shoot. “I was sent a flight ticket to Mumbai and given accommodation at a five-star hotel. I just had to sit there as a judge for one shot, and opposite me, on either side, were Amitabh Bachchan sir and Rajinikanth sir.”

Vettaiyan revolved around a senior police officer – played by Rajinikanth – who accidentally shoots an innocent person during an encounter while he investigates the murder of a teacher. The cast also featureed Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan, Rohini, Rao Ramesh, Abhirami, and Ramesh Thilak. An average grosser, the film had collected ₹253 crore worldwide.
